Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is praising Cardi B after the rapper endorsed his 2020 White House bid this week.

“She is very sharp and understands a lot about politics and a lot about history,” the Democratic presidential candidate said Wednesday during an interview with Ali Velshi on MSNBC’s “Velshi & Ruhle.”

{mosads}Sanders, 77, revealed that he recently chatted with the 26-year-old Grammy Award winner.

“I’m very appreciative to have her support,” Sanders added.

The “Money” rapper had tweeted to her more than 6 million followers a day earlier that she is rooting for Sanders, writing:

The New York-born performer isn’t new to the Sanders bandwagon. During the 2016 presidential race, Cardi B urged her fans to “vote for Daddy Bernie.”

Sanders also tweeted his thanks to the entertainer on Tuesday:

It’s not the first time that Sanders has gotten some vocal support from a rap artist. Killer Mike, a rapper and political activist, endorsed Sanders during the 2016 election and appeared at a campaign event alongside him. The 44-year-old Atlanta rapper said earlier this year that he’d be behind Sanders’ 2020 run because “he’s the only person who can beat [President] Trump.”
