Kiss frontman Paul Stanley took to Twitter on Sunday to call for more action to address gun violence after a mass shooting the day before in West Texas left at least seven people dead and more wounded.

“We don’t have more ‘crazy’ or ‘mentally unstable’ people in the US. What we DO have are commonplace mass shootings with automatic and semi-automatic high powered firearms. THAT cannot be disputed,” he tweeted on Sunday morning.

“Tell me what we and our government must do. Prayers and sympathy are not enough,” he continued.

His comments come after President Trump told reporters at the White House on Sunday that he believes gun violence is a mental health issue in the aftermath of the recent shooting in Texas.

{mosads}During the briefing, Trump also said that he is talking to Congress about possible measures to counter gun violence but added that he doesn’t believe stricter background checks would have done much to prevent mass shootings over the past several years.

“We’re looking at the same things,” Trump said. “It really hasn’t changed anything.”

“Background checks — I will say that for the most part, sadly, if you look at the last four or five, going back even five or six or seven years — for the most part, as strong as you make your background checks, they would not have stopped any of it,” he added. “So it’s a big problem. It’s a mental problem. It’s a big problem.”

Seven people were killed and 22 were injured in a shooting spree that began during a traffic stop on Saturday and continued through parts of Odessa, Texas, by a gunman who opened fire from a vehicle.

Authorities have identified the gunman behind the West Texas shooting, which is the second to take place in the state in a month, as 36-year-old Seth Aaron Ator.
