In an interview with Variety, the director of the new film "3 From Hell" said that the cancellation of "The Hunt" was "bullshit."

"As far as 'The Hunt,' that’s just a bullshit sacrificial lamb that solves nothing in society, but they always do that," Zombie said.

"If it wasn’t that movie, it would have been a video game or sometimes it was somebody’s rock album. 'That was satanic and we have to ban that!' It’s always something and none of it matters. It’s all fake, it’s all a fake show," he added.

Zombie said that Trump supporters misunderstood the message of the never-released film, which depicted "elites" hunting down everyday people referred to as "deplorables."

"Our ambition was to poke at both sides of the aisle equally,” director Craig Zobel told Variety last month.

“I wanted to make a fun, action thriller that satirized this moment in our culture — where we jump to assume we know someone’s beliefs because of which ‘team’ we think they’re on ... and then start shouting at them," Zobel said. “This rush to judgment is one of the most relevant problems of our time."

Trump himself took aim at the movie on Twitter, writing that it was an example of "Liberal Hollywood [being] Racist at the highest level."
