Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, are on a two-week royal tour of South Africa with their 4-month-old son Archie, and they met Obama Foundation members earlier this week.

The palace reportedly said Markle would be “working with local organizations to promote women and girls’ health and education, entrepreneurship and leadership” during the trip.

Obama interviewed Markle for the September issue of British Vogue that Obama guest-edited. The issue, called "Forces for Change," featured "a cast of brilliant female changemakers who are set to re-shape society in radical and positive ways," a statement from British Vogue said.

In the interview portion of the issue, Markle refers to Obama as her friend, calling the previous executive mansion resident the "ultimate force for change."
