Alicia Keys, French Montana, Becky G to perform at Rock the Vote benefit

Rock the Vote and Tidal are teaming up for a star-studded concert, aiming to move young voters towards the ballot box.

Alicia Keys, French Montana and Becky G are among the names who will headline the Tidal X Rock the Vote benefit concert on Oct. 21 at the Barclays Center in New York, the groups announced Thursday.
The concert — hosted by Angie Martinez and also featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Farruko and G-Eazy, among others — kicks off a yearlong partnership between Rock the Vote, which describes itself as a nonpartisan nonprofit, and Tidal, rapper Jay-Z's music streaming service.
"We'll be teaming up with them and then working with our network of state and local partners across the country in places like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, to really make sure we're reaching young people where they are through trusted messengers and giving them the information that they need," Rock the Vote President Carolyn DeWitt tells ITK.
The effort through the 2020 election season will include voter registration, voter education and mobilization and get out the vote drives. All the net proceeds from ticket sales from the concert — which begins at 12 p.m. Thursday for Tidal members and 4 p.m. Thursday for the general public — will go to Rock the Vote, according to organizers.
In an interview, DeWitt called the 2020 election "a critical moment for young people to speak up and have their voices heard, regardless of what their beliefs are."
"It's important that all eligible voters are empowered to cast their ballot, knowing that young people require more information because they are voting for the first and second time," says DeWitt.
