The voices of the high-profile figures — along with others such as RuPaul, Cyndi Lauper and Courtney Love — can be heard reading Emma Lazarus’s famous poem "The New Colossus."


The video, released Thursday, is part of a promotional campaign from HBO and World of Wonder for the upcoming documentary from fashion designer Diane von Furstenburg on the Statue of Liberty, called "Liberty: Mother of Exiles." 

The doc premieres on Oct. 17 on HBO.

The reading comes after Ken Cuccinelli, the acting head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, made headlines in August when he said during an interview that the poem on the Statue of Liberty welcoming immigrants to the United States was meant to refer to "people coming from Europe."

Also among the celebrities reading the lines of the 1883 poem are Regina Spektor, Charo and Andy Cohen.
