Singer Neil Young has said that recent U.S. presidents haven't done enough to tackle climate change.

"The time to do something has been now for the last 50 years, and no one's doing anything," he told The Associated Press, according to a clip posted Saturday by the news outlet.

"Can you imagine that? They're trying to fight California for lowering the emissions of vehicles," he said, referring to The Trump administration's September decision to revoke a waiver California has used to require automakers to produce more environmentally friendly vehicles for the state.

"We are smart enough to screw everything up, and we're smart enough to fix everything, so what are we going to do?" Young asked.

Young has been critical of the Trump administration and in 2016 supported Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the Democratic primary. Young is a Canadian citizen but has lived in the United States for more than 50 years.
