Clintons send pizza to NY hospital staff treating coronavirus

Emergency workers in New York were surprised on Wednesday when they were treated to free pizza from the Clinton family as thanks for their efforts during the coronavirus epidemic that has hammered New York City.
Twitter posts indicated that medical workers at St John’s Riverside Hospital, Dobbs Ferry were treated to pizza donated by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
“Amazing !!! I am an ER doctor at Dobbs Ferry NY and just received pizza from the Clintons. Thank you !!!! We NEED LEADERS LIKE YOU in this tough time. So much gratitude I didn’t know how else to reach you to say thank you,” tweeted Angela Cirilli, an emergency medicine ultrasound director at the hospital, in response to a tweet from Hillary Clinton thanking medical workers and “everyone else who is working to save lives and keep us all going right now.”

The reports were later confirmed by Chelsea Clinton, the couple’s daughter, who quipped that conspiracy theorists would fit the event into the far-right “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory that appeared during Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential run.
“My first thought was gratitude for hospital staff everywhere. My second was, of course she did. My third, I admit, was the pizzagate folks are going to go into overdrive to fit this into their conspiracy theory. And, I love my mom @HillaryClinton,” she tweeted.

A spokesperson for Hillary Clinton confirmed to CBS News that the couple had donated more than 400 pizzas.
“The Clintons have sent pizzas to all of the hospitals in their home county of Westchester (over 400 pies), as a small token of their appreciation for everything medical professionals are doing for their communities,” the spokesperson told the news outlet in an email.
New York hospitals have been hit particularly hard by the coronavirus epidemic, running low on critical medical supplies as they try to deal with the overflow of patients. The city alone has reported more than 17,000 cases and more than 200 deaths.
