Bakery puts Fauci’s face on donuts
Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been front and center in the White House’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, his face is featured on a different platform: donuts.
Donuts Delite, a bakery in Rochester, N.Y., is selling “Dr. Fauci Logo Donuts.”
The bakery advertised the treats with Fauci’s face in a Facebook post Wednesday. The donuts are available to purchase with “touch-less” delivery, as well as for takeout and curbside pickup.
Nick Semeraro, the franchisee of the cafe, told Democrat & Chronicle the shop has sold hundreds of the Fauci donuts since Monday.
“People are buying them like crazy,” Semeraro said.
He said Donuts Delite hopes to bring “light to a humbling experience.”
“We’re watching the news like everyone else,” Semeraro told the newspaper. “He’s on TV giving us the facts; you’ve got to respect that. We’re bipartisan, we stay neutral, but you’ve got to give credit where credit’s due.”
Donuts Delite wrote on Facebook that the baked good is a plain donut with frosting, and the option to be filled with any filling.
The bakery prints an image of Fauci on wafer-thin edible paper and places it on top of a thick layer or buttercream frosting in order to achieve the effect, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
