West, a Chicago native, was seen marching alongside a group of Chicago Public School (CPS) students at a protest calling on the school system to cancel their contract with the Chicago Police Department, according to Chicago outlet ABC7.

Organizers with the group “Good Kids Mad City” told USA Today that West reached out Wednesday and said that he wanted to join a protest. However, the protest grew less organized as members of the media surrounded the rapper.

One organizer, Taylore Norwood, 20, told the crowd that the march was a youth-led protest and that a “celebrity” should not derail it, according to USA Today. West appeared to depart from the protest before the end of the march.

West this week donated $2 million in support of the families of Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor. The donation will help fund legal fees for Arbery and Taylor’s families, in addition to providing support for black-owned businesses.

West has also set up a fund to cover college tuition expenses for Gianna Floyd, Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter.

Protests have broken out across the country over Floyd’s death last week. The man died after an officer was seen during an arrest kneeling on his neck for nearly 9 minutes.

Arbery was shot and killed by a pair of white men in February while jogging in Brunswick, Ga.

Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was fatally shot in her apartment by Louisville, Ky., city police in March.
