In a tweet Tuesday morning, Hart responded to the president's early-Tuesday Twitter attack against NBA players who boycotted games last week in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis., which has reignited protests calling for racial justice across the country.

"What a dumbass," Hart wrote.

The president had posited less than an hour earlier that Americans were "tired of watching the highly political @NBA," adding, "Basketball ratings are WAY down, and they won’t be coming back."

Several teams including the Milwaukee Bucks chose not to play games last week in response to the shooting of Blake, who was struck seven times in the back by bullets while witnesses say he was attempting to break up a fight. Police later found a knife in his car, but no weapon on his person.

Players on the Bucks also held a press conference after choosing not to play their game calling on Wisconsin's state legislature to reconvene and address police brutality and racial injustice.

The president has frequently criticized players in the NBA and NFL for speaking out about racial justice issues, and last week accused the NBA of becoming "like a political organization" during a press briefing about the administration's response to Hurricane Laura.

"I don’t think that’s a good thing for sports or for the country," he added at the time.
