NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana and his wife Jennifer Montana successfully prevented a home intruder from abducting their grandchild Saturday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The department said Montana told deputies that an unknown woman entered his Malibu home and attempted to kidnap the child from a playpen. The two confronted her and asked her to give back the child. They first attempted to reason with her, after which Jennifer Montana was able to grab back the child, according to The Associated Press, citing the sheriff’s office.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Scary situation, but thankful that everybody is doing well. We appreciate respect for our privacy at this time,” Montana tweeted Sunday.

The department said the suspect has been identified as Sodsai Dalzell. While she fled after the incident, she has since been arrested on kidnapping and burglary charges.

Montana was twice named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player by the AP and was quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers for four Super Bowl victories. He retired in 1994 and was indicted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
