The Obamas' production company is behind a new Netflix sketch comedy show that focuses on the government.

"The G Word with Adam Conover" is poised to be a government 101-style series that blends humor and documentary elements about the American government to take viewers "inside the machine" and introduce them to "the civil servants who make it work," according to a news release. The show is said to be "loosely inspired" by Michael Lewis's 2018 book, "The Fifth Risk."

Higher Ground Productions, the company created by former President Obama and Michelle ObamaMichelle LeVaughn Robinson ObamaObama: 'Hopeless' to try to sell as many books as Michelle Obama sold record-breaking 1.7 million copies of memoir in first week Media and Hollywood should stop their marching-to-Georgia talk MORE, will spearhead the project, along with TruTV "Adam Ruins Everything" host Conover's production company, Fair Point.

"The United States government affects our lives in countless ways, from the food we eat to the money in our bank accounts. But despite the many hours we spend obsessing over politics, almost none of us know the first thing about the massive organization those politicians are supposed to run," a synopsis for the series states. "Instead, 'government' has become a dirty word that we'd rather not talk or even think about... comedian Adam Conover serves up the antidote."

The show is scheduled to start production next year, Netflix said Thursday.

The Obamas inked a multi-year deal with Netflix back in 2018, which the media giant announced at the time would potentially include films, documentaries, features and both scripted and unscripted series.
