The suit, filed Friday in Los Angeles, claims LaBeouf assaulted the singer while the pair were driving back to L.A. from the desert in February 2019, The New York Times reported.
FKA twigs alleges the actor removed his seat belt and threatened to crash the car they were in unless she declared her love for him. During a stop at a gas station, the singer claims LaBeouf threw her against the car and yelled at her after she removed her bags from the vehicle.
She also claims he choked her in the middle of the night during that trip and broadly accuses him of "relentless abuse," alleging he also knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted infection.
“I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency,” the 32-year-old singer told the Times of her reasoning behind filing the suit.
LaBeouf did not respond to the Times's request for comment on the lawsuit but had told the newspaper in an email on Thursday that he was "ashamed" of some of his past conduct.
“I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel,” he told the Times. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
LaBeouf has been arrested in the past on charges such as disorderly conduct and assault that were ultimately dismissed.
The actor drew attention in January 2017 when he was arrested outside a New York City museum following an alleged altercation with a man during the actor's live protest against President TrumpDonald TrumpMedia giants side with Bannon on request to release Jan. 6 documents Cheney warns of consequences for Trump in dealings with Jan. 6 committee Jan. 6 panel recommends contempt charges for Trump DOJ official MORE.
