Rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to a federal firearm charge on Saturday, and now faces up to 10 years of prison time, according to a statement from the Southern District of Florida’s U.S. Attorney Office.

The rapper has previously been convicted of a felony, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was arrested and charged with illegally carrying a loaded handgun last December while traveling from California to South Florida via a private plane.

An anonymous tipper informed police, who arrested the rapper upon landing.

After obtaining a search warrant, police allegedly found a gold-plated Remington 1911, a .45-caliber handgun, loaded with six rounds of ammunition in the musician’s bag. They also uncovered personal use amounts of cocaine, ecstasy and oxycodone, according to the statement.

According to NBC News, Lil Wayne made bail of $250,000 but had to surrender his passport.

The rapper’s sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 28 and he faces up to 10 years of prison time.

One of Lil Wayne’s attorneys, Ron Sweeney expressed love for the rapper and his family, adding that he hoped that President Trump would pardon him.

“My heart goes out to Wayne and his family.  I still love him notwithstanding the lawsuit.  I hope the court shows leniency or Trump pardons him,” Sweeney said.

“In the first gun case, Wayne would have been found not guilty. There were 15 people on the bus where the gun was found. The gun was not his but the NYPD only charged Wayne since it was his tour bus. The NYPD had the hip hop squad targeting rappers. He decided not to risk going to jail for three years.”
