Hostin urged viewers to take coronavirus precautions seriously, as her mother- and father-in-law were both "very careful" and still contracted the virus before dying over the holidays.

"COVID is very, very serious," she said. "It is not a joke, it is not a hoax."

Hostin called on viewers to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommended guidelines for virus protection, adding that despite contract tracing, it's still not clear how her in-laws got the coronavirus.

She ended her message with a plea for the public to get vaccinated when they have the chance.

"We must do this together," Hostin said.
