Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively donated $500,000 each to two organizations fighting hunger in the U.S. and Canada amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The couple made the donations to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. In a statement released by Feeding America on Twitter, the couple said that they are “honored and privileged” to support the charities.

“We know the struggles so many of our neighbors faced last year are not over, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help food banks across the U.S. and Canada to be able to provide nourishing meals to people in need,” Reynolds and Lively said in the statement.

Feeding America thanked the celebrities in the tweet, calling Reynolds and Lively “our hunger-fighting dream team!”

Food Banks Canada also thanked the couple on Twitter, lauding Reynolds as their “favourite Canadian.” The charity joked that the "Green Lantern" and "Deadpool" star is their "favourite superhero," apologizing to actor Hugh Jackman, who has portrayed the superhero Wolverine.

Reynolds and Lively donated $1 million to the charitable organizations last year at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Food Banks Canada said in a statement on Instagram Monday that the move “inspired so many Canadians to donate to their local food banks and show their support to their neighbours during these critical times.”

Lively last year called on fans to also give to the organizations, in addition to practicing social distancing and other health precautions during the pandemic.

“We can all do something for one another, even if that’s simply staying home,” she shared at the time.
