NBA star LeBron James is set to become a part owner of the Boston Red Sox.

James, along with his agent Maverick Carter, recently became partners of Fenway Sports Group, according to the Boston Globe. The group owns sports teams including the Red Sox, Liverpool FC of the English Premier League, Roush Fenway Racing, regional sports network NESN, Fenway Sports Management and FSG Real Estate.

Pending approval from the MLB, which could take several weeks, James will solidify his partial ownership of the Red Sox, a source familiar with the deal told the Globe.

The Lakers star reportedly purchased a 2 percent share of the Liverpool soccer franchise in 2011, according to Sports Illustrated.

James and Carter will become Fenway Sports Group's first and only Black partners, the Globe noted.

The Fenway Sports Group is currently valued at $6.6 billion, making it the fourth-most valuable sports empire, Forbes reported.
