Taylor Swift donates $50,000 to family whose father died of COVID-19

The GoFundMe donation page was started by a family friend after the father of five, Theodis Ray Quarles, lost his battle with the coronavirus one week before Christmas. With the Swifts' donation, it has now raised $62,920, exceeding its original $50,000 goal.

“Alyssa, Anaya, Asia, Allie and Aryah will miss him at breakfast, at their class plays, proms, recitals, graduations, college entries...and ultimately their weddings,” the family friend, DeQuanda Smith, wrote in the description of the fundraiser.


Smith posted an update on the GoFundMe on Wednesday thanking everyone for their support and singling out the donation from Taylor and Andrea Swift.

I would like to especially say thank you to Andrea and Taylor Swift for your thoughtfulness and generosity from our homestate of Tennessee. I appreciate the sweet personal note, it warmed my heart,” she wrote.

This isn’t the first time the "Willow" singer has donated to a family during the pandemic.

She donated $13,000 each to two unemployed mothers who were about to be evicted from their apartments in December. 

The coronavirus has infected more than 30 million people in the U.S. and has led to the deaths of almost 550,000.
