Delaware and New Jersey are engaging in an April Fools' Day Twitter face-off, with the First State saying it will merge with its northern neighbor to become "New Delaware."
Delaware's official state account got in the April 1 spirit on Thursday, ribbing New Jersey in a tweet announcing the two would "become one state."
"We’re offering @NJGov a fresh start. We’ll forget about all that stuff in the past," the Delaware account tweeted.
New Jersey and Delaware will be merging to become one state, named “New Delaware”. We’re offering @NJGov a fresh start. We’ll forget about all that stuff in the past. The capital will be the @demembridge, jughandles will be banned, and the full coastline will be “the beach.” pic.twitter.com/TZ9i7UzKu2

The account quipped that the Delaware Memorial Bridge would become the new state's capital, "jughandles will be banned," and the "full coastline will be 'the beach.'"
New Jersey's Twitter account — which has amassed a sizable following over the years for its comedic and sometimes-snarky posts — seemingly wasn't having it, telling Delaware to take a social media hike:
