Biden, Harris, Harry and Meghan added to ‘Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World’
President Biden and Vice President Harris, along with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are joining a star-studded concert aimed at promoting COVID-19 vaccinations.
The commander in chief will make a “special appearance” at Global Citizen’s “Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World,” organizers announced Tuesday. The May 8 Selena Gomez-hosted music event is scheduled to air and stream across multiple TV networks and platforms, including ABC, CBS, YouTube and iHeartMedia radio stations, among others.
Biden’s appearance, Global Citizen said in a statement, will be part of the White House’s We Can Do This initiative to “increase public confidence in COVID-19 vaccines while reinforcing basic prevention measures, such as mask wearing and social distancing.”
Harry and Meghan will serve as campaign chairs for the big-name gathering and will be “delivering an important global message for vaccine equity during the event.”
In addition to the president, vice president and royal couple, the team behind the production on Tuesday unveiled a growing list of participants for the pro-vaccination concert, including: first lady Jill Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, David Letterman, Chrissy Teigen, Ben Affleck, Jimmy Kimmel, Sean Penn, Gayle King, Nomzamo Mbatha and Olivia Munn.
Event organizers had announced earlier this month that Jennifer Lopez, Foo Fighters J Balvin, H.E.R. and Eddie Vedder would be among the performers at the concert, which will be pre-taped at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
