McDonald’s teams up with HHS on pro-vaccination campaign

Forget cream and sugar — McDonald’s coffee cups will soon come with a pro-vaccination message.

The fast food giant announced Tuesday that it’s teaming up with the Biden administration to promote getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Beginning in July, McDonald’s will add stickers to its McCafé cups directing customers to The goal, McDonald’s said in a statement, is to lead Americans to the site so “they can learn more about how they can protect themselves and the people they love from COVID-19, as well as where to find vaccine appointments near them.”

The cups and McDelivery seal stickers will also feature new packaging with a design from the Department of Health and Human Services’s (HHS) “We Can Do This” public education campaign.

“Thanks to McDonald’s, people will now be able to get trusted information about vaccines when they grab a cup of coffee or order a meal,” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said about the partnership. “This effort will help more people make informed decisions about their health and learn about steps they can take to protect themselves and their communities,” Becerra said.

“McDonald’s is excited to be doing our part for the people we serve, providing them with simple information that can help keep them safe,” said Genna Gent, McDonald’s USA vice president for global public policy and government relations.

“We’re proud to enter this partnership to provide trusted, independently verified information about COVID-19 vaccines to our customers in the nearly 14,000 communities we serve,” said Gent.

In addition to the vaccine makeover its cups are getting, McDonald’s said it will also debut information about COVID-19 shots “from trusted third parties” on its billboard in New York’s Times Square beginning later this month.
