“The Late Show” host Stephen ColbertStephen Tyrone ColbertRita Moreno defends Lin-Manuel Miranda after 'In the Heights' casting criticism Jon Stewart: Coronavirus 'more than likely caused by science' Colbert returns to film before studio audience MORE during his opening monologue on Tuesday said, “The pandemic has been a boom time for billionaires, and they are using their profits to give back to hard-hit communities, as long as those communities build giant, shiny new yachts.”

“Today, we learned that Bezos will soon receive delivery of a $500 million megayacht," he continued. "Don’t know exactly when it will be delivered, but we do know it will come in a much bigger box."

Bloomberg first reported that the yacht, that will be 417 feet long when completed, is set to become one of the largest sailing yachts ever built in the Netherlands.

People familiar with the matter who spoke to Bloomberg said that Bezos, currently the wealthiest person on the planet, owns the yacht, which is scheduled to move to a new shipyard for remaining construction next month.

The news outlet estimated that the finished yacht will cost about $500 million in total to build, not including a support yacht which will reportedly contain an area for helicopters to land and takeoff.

Colbert on Tuesday joked, “You can tell which one is the support yacht because it has that little vest. That way, you can take the yacht on the plane with you.”

He went on to say, “Here’s why Bezos needs it: The mommy yacht will be powered with the assistance of three giant masts, and those sails mean it will not support a helipad, so they need a separate ship with a dedicated landing facility.”

“I mean, who hasn’t needed a separate yacht just for his helicopter?” he added.
