The rapper, also known as MGK, made the revelation during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that aired Wednesday. The moment came while he was discussing his relationship with Fox, which the couple made public last year

Early on in their relationship, the rapper said the actress had left to go to Bulgaria to film a movie. At the time, Kelly recalled he was “kind of freaking out” since it was “really new in our relationship” and he “didn’t have a passport either.”

The two then discussed a parting gift Fox gave Kelly before leaving to film the project: a vial of the actress’s blood. He displayed the item to DeGeneres during the show.

“Some people give a handkerchief or whatever to their partner, or whatever. She gave me her DNA,” Kelly said.

“So, did you ever get a passport?” DeGeneres asked Kelly.

“You know who helped me get a passport? Bernie Sanders,” he said to laughs from the audience.

“Thank you so much. I haven’t talked to him since this happened,” he continued, clasping his hands together. “Thank you to the Bernie Sanders team for that.”

“I made it to Bulgaria and the relationship’s going strong, so thank you so much,” he said again.

“Bernie Sanders got you to Bulgaria and also to save your relationship possibly?” DeGeneres summed up.

“Yeah,” Kelly said.

“Don’t know what would have happened,” DeGeneres added to laughs.
