‘West Wing’ president on Trump: ‘We’ve got to call this bum out’
Martin Sheen, the actor who portrayed fictional President Josiah Bartlet on the popular political drama “The West Wing,” slammed former President Trump during a recent interview with Forbes writer Jeff Conway.
“This has been a colossal error in our character, this Trump administration,” Sheen, 80, told Conway. “We have lacked leadership until very recently.”
I asked 80-year-old Martin Sheen yesterday for his personal thoughts on the political climate in America today and his response absolutely blew me away.

Sheen, a lifelong Democrat, blamed the country’s contentious political climate on the 45th president.
When other presidents, such as Dwight D. Eisenhower and Harry Truman, were in power, there wasn’t the political divisiveness between Democrats and Republicans that there is today, Sheen argued.
“Republicans were equally admired and their thoughts and service was equally embraced,” he said. “There wasn’t a sense of selfishness, or power or dishonesty.”
The Emmy-winning actor called on Trump to step up and admit fault for his lies around the 2020 election, adding that, “So many good people have followed this bad man.”
He continued, “He’s a hustler and he has absolutely no one that he’s concerned about but himself.”
Sheen ended his rant by calling on America to ditch Trump, who has repeatedly floated running for president again in 2024.
“This guy does not deserve this much attention,” he said. “We’ve got to call this bum out for what he is.”
