Drake Bell charged with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles
Jared Drake Bell, former star of the popular Nickelodeon TV show “Drake and Josh” has been charged with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and attempted endangering children.
Bell was charged in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, in connection with inappropriate sexual messages sent to a 15-year-old girl leading up to a concert in December 2017 and an incident that happened at the venue, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office said, Fox 8 reported.
The girl says she had a relationship for several years with Bell before the incident at the Cleveland concert and reported Bell to the police in Canada, where she lives, in October 2018.
Bell was allegedly sending messages to the teen months prior to the concert, and “Bell violated his duty of care and, in doing so, created a risk of harm to the victim,” during the concert, the prosecutor’s office said.
The actor, who is also a musician, appeared in court on Thursday where he was let go on a $2,500 personal bond after he pleaded not guilty.
The local outlet said Bell will most likely enter a plea of no contest or guilty to the bill of information during the June 23 pretrial hearing.
It is unclear when Bell was arrested, but his mugshot was taken on June 3.
Attempted endangering children is a fourth-degree felony, and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles is a first-degree misdemeanor, according to officials.
