Rather than the finish line, Sinema said the injury landed her in the hospital. The 44-year-old lawmaker, an avid runner, posted a photo of herself on Monday sitting in a wheelchair while wearing a white cast on her leg and holding crutches.

She expressed a desire to get back on her feet, writing, "I can't wait to help up and run [the Boston Marathon] with these speedy kids!"

Sinema's office didn't immediately return ITK's request for comment on the foot fracture.

In 2013, Sinema became the first member of Congress to complete an Ironman competition.
