Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.)

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema will be sporting a new accessory at the Capitol — a cast on her foot.

The Arizona Democrat said Sunday that she broke her foot while running in a marathon race in Washington state over the weekend.

“Broke my foot in the tunnel,” Sinema wrote on Instagram of the race, the Light at the End of the Tunnel Marathon. A promotional site for the course says runners can race “through a dark tunnel lit by your best running mates.”

Rather than the finish line, Sinema said the injury landed her in the hospital. The 44-year-old lawmaker, an avid runner, posted a photo of herself on Monday sitting in a wheelchair while wearing a white cast on her leg and holding crutches.

She expressed a desire to get back on her feet, writing, “I can’t wait to help up and run [the Boston Marathon] with these speedy kids!”

Sinema’s office didn’t immediately return ITK’s request for comment on the foot fracture.

In 2013, Sinema became the first member of Congress to complete an Ironman competition.
