Internet personality Hayes Grier arrested after violent robbery

Social media star and television personality Hayes Grier was arrested on Friday on charges of assault, felony conspiracy and common law robbery.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Grier, 21, was arrested in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on outstanding warrants from California. He was released from prison after posting $17,500 bail, according to the newspaper.

He is due to appear in court on 9 a.m. on Monday, the Observer notes, though it is unclear whether he must make his court appearance in North Carolina or California.

Grier’s charges stem from an incident in which he allegedly assaulted a man, leading to brain damage, and stole his cell phone, according to People magazine. The man reportedly suffered a broken left orbital bone, bruised ribs, head trauma and hearing loss.

Grier gained fame with his brother, Nash Grier, on the defunct video-sharing app Vine. He currently has over 880,000 followed on YouTube and over 5 million followers on Instagram.

Hayes Grier previously competed on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2015, being the youngest ever competitor at the time at 15-years-old.
