The "Nixon" star will serve as narrator for "State of Terror's" audiobook, publisher Simon & Schuster announced Tuesday.

The book from Clinton and mystery author Louise Penny, which follows a novice secretary of State who "joins the administration of her rival, a president inaugurated after four years of American leadership that shrank from the world stage," is poised to hit shelves next month.

"We couldn’t be more excited and honored to have Joan Allen reading the audio version of 'State of Terror.' She will bring our characters and their adventures alive for listeners," Clinton, 73, said in a statement.

Penny also expressed excitement about the Tony Award-winning pick, saying Allen will "brilliantly bring to life all the diverse characters and elements, from drama, to thriller, to humor and, best of all, make it all deeply human."

Allen, who supported Clinton's 2016 White House bid, called the Clinton and Penny book a "heart-pounding ride," and said she was "over the moon" to be chosen as its narrator.
