Donald Trump mocks Sen. Reid’s ‘extremely credible source’

{mosads}Trump, who has endorsed Romney, is only the latest Republican to fire back at Reid for lacking evidence to back up his claim.

Reid last week claimed an investor from Romney’s former private-equity firm Bain Capital told him that Romney had avoided paying income taxes for a decade. Reid called this person “an extremely credible source” in a statement on Thursday.

“There is a controversy because the Republican presidential nominee, [former] Governor Mitt Romney, refuses to release his tax returns,” Reid said in the statement. “People who make as much money as Mitt Romney have many tricks at their disposal to avoid paying taxes.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called Reid a “dirty liar” for accusing Romney of failing to pay taxes. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) argued it is a “fact” that “somebody told him” Romney managed to avoid paying taxes for a decade.

Romney said Reid needs to “put up or shut up” by describing who made the accusation. He also said “we’ll probably find out it’s the White House,” but White House press secretary Jay Carney on Monday said Reid “speaks for himself” on the issue.
