Though control of the White House briefing room might have formally transitioned to Jay Carney, control of the press secretary's Twitter account hadn't yet as of early Wednesday afternoon.

As Carney, the new press secretary, took his inaugural turn behind the podium in the White House briefing room, the "@PressSec" Twitter account was still attributed to Robert Gibbs, Carney's predecessor.

Control of the account, which is an official White House property subject to laws and regulations about logging official communication, would be handed over to Carney, the White House has said.

Carney hadn't had a Twitter account during his previous role as a communications adviser to Vice President Biden, and it's unclear to what extent he's familiar with Twitter.
