President Obama's Twitter and Facebook pages will be run by staff from his reelection campaign, Obama for America announced Friday. The president, the campaign said, will post regularly, too.

"Why make the change?" the asked a post on "As the President said when he launched this campaign a few months ago, he's focused on doing the job we elected him to do — so he's counting on all of us to lead this organization from the grassroots up, helping to shape it as it grows."

Tweets which come directly from Obama will be signed "-BO," the campaign said.

@barackobama has more than 8.6 million followers on Twitter, and more than 21.6 million people have 'liked' the president's page on Facebook.
