Rep. Charles Rangel's (D-N.Y.) Twitter account appeared to be hacked Friday.

The New York congressman's Twitter feed published two ads for weight loss.

"New Weight Loss Formula That Works Great http://surenewstarget.com," Rangel's account tweeted Friday afternoon. "Total Weightloss Formula Guaranteed to Work!"

The tweets aren't the first time a sitting legislator's account has published something that seemed not to be written by the account's owner. This past summer, then-Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D-N.Y.) account published a picture of a man's groin. The tweet was soon deleted.

At first Weiner said that his account had been hacked, but he eventually came forward as having unintentionally sent the tweet publicly.

Also that summer, Rep. Bill Johnson's (R-Ohio) account was hacked to publish strange messages and replace Johnson's account picture, according to The Columbus Dispatch. The tweets were removed quickly by Johnson's office, which also announced that the congressman's Twitter account had been broken into.
