White House press aide Raj Shah joining lobbying firm

Former White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah is co-leading the new strategic communications division of Ballard Partners.

The Ballard Media Group launched a new media venture Monday that will be run by Shah and James Rubin, who has worked at Ballard Partners for a year and previously was the spokesman to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

{mosads}Rubin also served as assistant secretary of State for public affairs during the Clinton administration.

While in the White House, Shah oversaw the communications strategy behind Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s controversial confirmation progress. He worked at the Republican National Committee before that.

“Companies, organizations and industries today face increasing scrutiny from an unrelenting media landscape. Our team, with years of proven results, will provide the strategic communications clients need to navigate these challenges and successfully deliver their message to the right audience,” said of Ballard in a press release.

Shah is one of a long line of press aides to have left the Trump White House. It had been reported last summer that Shah was looking to leave the White House following the Kavanaugh confirmation.

Former press secretary Sean Spicer left in August 2017 and was reportedly working on hosting a new television interview show. Former communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who served for 11 days in July 2017, will be on the upcoming season of CBS’s Celebrity Big Brother.

Ballard Partners is a Florida-based firm and is expanding its footprint in the federal government relations space in Washington.
