Food delivery service DoorDash announced on Wednesday that it will provide almost 30,000 discounted COVID-19 tests to restaurant owners with three or fewer locations.

The company said it partnered with Cellex, a lab testing company, to provide 1,150 testing kits to its restaurant partners for $100 each. Each kit contains 25 coronavirus tests.

“We’ve spent over $20,000 on COVID-19 testing to date, so we appreciate the lengths DoorDash is going to provide this benefit for us,” Aaron Noveshen, CEO of Starbird Chicken in San Francisco, said in the statement from DoorDash.

Restaurant owners will be able to place an online order for the testing kits beginning on Feb. 16. The program will last as long as supplies are available.

The new program could help small business owners in the restaurant industry, which has been ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to an analysis from the National Restaurant Association in December, roughly 1 out of 6 restaurants have permanently closed during the pandemic. More than a third of restaurant owners said they did not expect their businesses to still be open in six months.

A study released last week found that line cooks and agricultural workers were at the highest risk of death due to the coronavirus, with line cooks experiencing the most excess deaths in 2020. Those who make deliveries also experienced higher rates of death in the previous year.
