McDonald’s Corp. hired former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs as an executive vice president and its global chief communications officer. He comes from The Incite Agency, an advisory firm he founded when he left the Obama administration in 2013. The fast-food giant has also hired Silvia Lagnado as an executive vice president and global chief marketing officer. Prior to that, she worked as the chief marketing officer at Bacardi Ltd. and created Dove’s “Campaign for Real Beauty” while at Unilever. 

Janine Jones Smith will join the Hershey Co. as a vice president of government relations beginning on June 15. Before that, she spent eight years at K Street powerhouse Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, Washington’s No. 1 lobby firm by revenue. Some of her clients included the International Franchise Association, Burger King, the National Automobile Dealers Association and Hershey.  Smith also has Capitol Hill experience, having worked as the legislative counsel to former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun (D-Ill.).

Christopher Shelton has been named the new president of the Communications Workers of America, succeeding Larry Cohen, who led the union for a decade. Shelton has been a vice president of CWA District 1 — which covers more than 160,000 members in New Jersey, New York and New England — since 2005. 

Hogan Lovells has added Lisa Ellman to the firm as a partner in its government regulatory practice, with a focus on policies related to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). She will co-lead the UAS group with aviation partner E. Tazewell Ellett. Ellman previously held various posts in the Obama administration: in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Policy, the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, and the Office of Presidential Personnel.

Jackie Moran left Verizon’s public policy, security and communications shop to join the Application Developers Alliance, where she will lead the U.S. policy team. Moran also has experience with the House Republican Conference and as a subcommittee staff director within the House Financial Services Committee.
