Under Contract

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) ordered an “emergency purchase” of bottled water and meals ready to eat (MREs) after hurricanes slammed the southern part of the country and U.S. territories. The agency spent more than $46,000 to have tens of thousands of water bottles delivered to Miami and Homestead, Fla., awarding a contract to ASP Solution Inc. and GLL Trucking for the work. CBP also awarded two contracts more than $530,000 for MREs, both to LAM Wholesale.

The National Institutes of Health awarded a $16.1 million contract to Chimp Haven Inc. for the “operation and maintenance of the federal chimpanzee sanctuary system for retired chimpanzees.” It had been working under a four-year contract awarded in 2012, worth about $13 million, for the same services.


The Department of Health and Human Services is purchasing Ebola “medical countermeasures” and vaccines “that can be deployed in the event of an Ebola outbreak.” A $46 million contract has been awarded to Mapp Pharmaceuticals, which is developing an Ebola treatment drug. The contract seeks to “advance [the drug] ZMapp to licensure by the Food and Drug Administration.” It also received another multi-million contract to “support Mapp’s preclinical stage products for Sudan virus … and pan-Marburg virus.” Janssen Vaccines and Prevention, a Johnson & Johnson company, won a $44.7 million to help further the development and approval of an Ebola vaccine. 

IMPAQ International won a $589,895 contract from the Department of Health and Human Services “to provide conference related support services for the 21st National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect to be held in 2019.” It will be working with another contractor that is responsible for planning the event “to ensure the seamless delivery of conference and meeting support services.” 

The Forest Service has awarded a $14,800 contract to Silver Fir Media to “to develop two short films,” a minute-long “captivating social media promotional video” and a two- to three-minute “extended promotional video for use in social media and other web-based promotions.” Both are to promote the Florida National Scenic Trail.
