•California-based company Platinum Advisors announced that Erik Huey will lead its new Washington, D.C., office. Huey most recently was the senior vice president of government affairs for the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). He left in December, months after ESA CEO Mike Gallagher had left.
• Gregory Guice is now a senior vice president at McGuireWoods Consulting. He previously was a senior counsel for Akin Gump and before that served as the director of the Office of Legislative Affairs at the Federal Communications Commission and as a House Energy and Commerce Committee aide.
• David Culver is leaving the Distilled Spirits Council to join Canopy Growth Corporation, which is a Canadian cannabis company. His last day at the council will be Feb. 1. Distilled Spirits member Constellation Brands, which includes Svedka vodka, Mondavi wines and
Corona beer, made news recently with a $4 billion investment in Canopy. Culver had been the council's vice president and lead Democratic lobbyist for more than 15 years.
• Covington & Burling hired Broderick Johnson as senior of counsel in its public policy practice. Johnson most recently was a partner at Bryan Cave. He previously served as assistant to the president and Cabinet secretary under President Obama.
• Communications and public affairs firms Blue Engine Message & Media and JDA Frontline combined their practices and named five new partners: Adam Abrams, Amber McDowell, Steve Posner, Ralph Posner and Kevin Lewis. The new Blue Engine & JDA helps advocacy coalitions, nonprofits and corporations to reach diverse audiences and shape policy debates.
