Too Faced co-founder Jerrod Blandino has fired his sister for comments on social media about Nikkie de Jager, a Dutch Youtuber known online as NikkieTutorials.
De Jager, a makeup artist with 13 million subscribers on Youtube, came out as transgender this week after being blackmailed. On social media, many celebrities and fans shared their support for her, and the next day she posted her gratitude on Twitter.
I’ll never be able to put into words what these last few days have been like. thank you for accepting me and teaching me that on the other side of fear lies freedom. I love you so unconditionally, always.— NikkieTutorials (@NikkieTutorials) January 15, 2020
But Lisa Blandino, Jerrod’s sister who goes by Dani California on Instagram, updated her account bio to say, "Transgender huh? That's not the only thing she's been LYING about," according to screenshots that soon went viral.
Lisa then changed her profile to read, “Let’s be clear, I love trans people & dislike anyone who lies to hurt others! Period!” Her bio has since been changed again and her Instagram profile is now private.
In a statement on the company’s twitter, Jerrod said, "I would like to make sure it is understood that although I love my sister very much, the things she says or does have absolutely nothing to do with me and do not in any way reflect me, my opinions, thoughts, or feelings nor speak for me or Too Faced in any way shape or form.”
Distancing himself from his sister’s comments, he said he supported NikkieTutorials and was inspired by her coming out.
"I have always stood for love, equality and kindness in my life and everything I do. I am sorry for the hurt she has caused. Let it be known that I am truly shocked and disgusted to my core at her recent actions," Blandino said of his sister. "I do not tolerate this behavior and she is no longer an employee of Too Faced."
NikkieTutorials has a complicated history with the makeup brand after collaborating with them in 2016 on a collection that was met with bad reviews about the makeup’s quality. In October 2019, de Jager said on social media that Too Faced changed the quality of the makeup without her knowing.
I signed my contract with TF back then because I was naive & didn’t know better. at the end of the day, I signed it, it’s my own fault— but what I’ll never forgive is that “allegedly” they changed the palette’s quality behind my back. 1000’s of negative reviews & I was clueless— NikkieTutorials (@NikkieTutorials) October 6, 2019
