“A series of terrorist attacks throws the global order into disarray, and the Secretary is tasked with assembling a team to unravel the deadly conspiracy, a scheme carefully designed to take advantage of an American government dangerously out of touch and out of power in the places where it counts the most,” the synopsis states.

The novel is expected to be released on Oct. 12 and will be jointly released by Simon & Schuster and St. Martin’s Press.

Clinton, who served as secretary of state during former President Obama’s first term, has written several works of nonfiction, including her 2017 memoir “What Happened,” which details her experiences as the Democratic party’s nominee for president during the 2016 election and her defeat at the hands of former President Trump. The upcoming thriller appears to draw from her years of experience as secretary of state.

“Writing a thriller with Louise is a dream come true,” Clinton said in a statement Tuesday, according to AP. “I’ve relished every one of her books and their characters as well as her friendship. Now we’re joining our experiences to explore the complex world of high stakes diplomacy and treachery. All is not as it first appears."

Clinton’s husband and former President Bill Clinton in 2018 published his first political thriller with author James Patterson in 2018 titled “The President Is Missing,” and his new novel “The President’s Daughter” is set to come out in June.

Some of Penny’s past works include “The Cruelest Month” and “The Brutal Telling.”

“Before we started, we talked about her time as Secretary of State. What was her worst nightmare? ‘State of Terror’ is the answer,” Penny said, according to AP.
