Israel banned all foreign travelers from entering the country effective Nov. 28 to prevent the spread of omicron in the country. However, Israel conceded it would still be hosting the pageant in spite of the travel ban.

"This is an event that will be broadcast in 174 countries, a very important event, an event that Eilat, too, is very much in need of," Israeli Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov said Sunday, according to Reuters.

On Monday, a Miss Universe contestant tested positive for the coronavirus when arriving in Israel, though it is unclear whether she had the omicron variant or not.
