After epic meltdown, controversial NFL star speaks out

Story at a glance

  • NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is no longer with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
  • Brown wrote “Football is what we do, not who we are! Love,” Brown wrote on Instagram following his televised exit.
  • “I think everyone should be very compassionate and empathetic toward some very difficult things that are happening,” Tom Brady said of Brown’s departure.

NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is no longer with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after leaving the field shirtless during his former team’s victory on Sunday.

Brown posted a photo of himself on Instagram wearing his Tampa Bay uniform, captioned “Big MAD (Making A Difference) Thanks for the opportunity.”

In an earlier Instagram post, Brown wrote “Football is what we do, not who we are! Love.”

After Tampa Bay’s 28-24 victory over the New York Jets, Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians, told Fox’s Jay Glazer after Tampa Bay’s 28-24 victory over the New York Jets that when Brown refused his appeals to re-enter the game, “Arians told him to get out,” Glazer tweeted. Arians added in a post-game press conference, “He is no longer a Buc.”

“That’s the end of the story. Let’s talk about the guys that went out there and won the game,”  Arians said, noting later he would not be talking about Brown any further, according to ESPN

The 33-year-old player’s departure was captured on television, showing Brown’s former teammates Mike Evans and O.J. Howard apparently attempting to reason with him. Brown proceeded to remove his jersey and an undershirt, throwing both into the stands at MetLife Stadium before exiting through the end zone tunnel.

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady told reporters that the team loves and cares for Brown, adding he will continue his own friendship with the wide receiver.

“I think everyone should be very compassionate and empathetic toward some very difficult things that are happening,” Brady said.
