Former President Trump is attacking the U.S. Women’s national soccer team for failing to win the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, saying the team would've taken home first place if they weren’t “woke.”

The U.S. lost to Canada in the semifinals, but the team was able to bounce back and capture the bronze medal after defeating Australia 4-3 Thursday.

Not long after the win, Trump launched verbal attacks against the U.S. team.

“If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze,” Trump said in an emailed statement Thursday.

“Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has,” he said.

The former president singled out Megan Rapinoe, who has often criticized Trump and been outspoken on social justice issues.

“They should replace the wokesters with Patriots and start winning again. The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics and not doing her job!” he added.

Trump falsely criticized the team for kneeling during the national anthem during the Tokyo Olympics, something they did not do. The women’s team joined other countries in taking a knee before its match against Sweden last month in protest of racism and racial inequality.

Rapinoe at the time said kneeling is “an opportunity for us to continue to use our voices and use our platforms to talk about the things that affect all of us intimately in different ways.”
