Actress and activist Rosario Dawson, a longtime ally, has finally come out herself as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

On top of starring in a new television show “Briarpatch,” operating Voto Latino — a nonprofit organization that mobilizes Latinx and Hispanic voters — and dating former 2020 presidential hopeful Sen. Cory Booker, Dawson supports a variety of causes, from eco-conscious fashion to helping underprivileged girls in the Lower East Side’s Girl Club, she is also a staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, among other platforms.

In a Bustle interview, Dawson explained that she is ready to open up about her own sexuality. In a 2018 Instagram post supporting the LGBTQ+ community, many interpreted it as Dawson herself coming out. While that was not the case then, Dawson told Bustle that “I never did come out come out,” but that “I guess I am now.”

Dawson states that she has never had an LGBTQ+ relationship, and thus felt that the space “never felt like an authentic calling” to her.
