Hollywood star Matt Damon is facing backlash after revealing he recently stopped using a derogatory term to identify a LGBTQ+ person.

The 50-year-old actor told The Times he quit using the “F-slur for a homosexual” about a month ago when he was called out by one of his daughters. Damon reportedly argued to the outlet the term no longer means what be believed it did when he began using it early in his life.

“I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie ‘Stuck on You!’” Damon said.

“She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, ‘I retire the F-slur!’ I understood,” Damon continued.

Numerous Twitter users recoiled at the actor’s admission and called him out for the timing of his mid-life decision to drop the epithet.

“Matt Damon is a whole grown 51 year old man…. And his Gen Z baby told him a homophobic slur is not okay. Like was he just walking around dropping this on sets or whatever prior,” one user tweeted

“Remember when the joke was that Ben Affleck was the dumb one and Matt Damon was the smart one?” tweeted another person. “Because one is dating J-Lo and the other is spending the year of our lord Dolly Parton 2021 bragging about how he just stopped saying ‘f--.'”

Another user opened up about the dilemma actor’s face when revealing their own struggles, only to have them potentially backfire.

“As a member of the press, I like when celebrities talk to the press, but it's always illuminating to hear the stories that folks like Liam Neeson or Matt Damon think are humanizing and charming, but actually reveal insulation and isolation (among other unsavory stuff) instead,” the user posted.

Damon did not specify to the outlet which of his four daughters lectured him on choice of words.

“I want to know what word Matt Damon has replaced f****t with,” comedian Billy Eichner tweeted.
