The NFL’s first openly gay player helped lead his team to victory with a huge play in the final minutes of his team’s season opener Monday night.

Carl Nassib, who announced in an Instagram post in June that he is gay, forced a crucial fumble in overtime — leading to a game winning drive for the Las Vegas Raiders in their match up against the Baltimore Ravens.

Nassib strip-sacked Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson with 4:31 remaining during the game’s extra minutes, giving his team another chance after a series of mistakes made by the Raiders offense on the previous drive.

But the Raiders offense stepped up after the forced fumble, with quarterback Derek Carr finishing the game a few plays later with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Zay Jones.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden praised Nassib’s efforts, saying the defensive end “made a great play.”

“Nassib had a great training camp,” Gruden added, per the Las Vegas Review Journal. “We’re going to need him going forward.”

“I’ve played in a lot of games, this being my sixth year,” Nassib said following the wild finish. “I try to make sure that I remember every single game. I won’t forget this one.”

“I’m happy we got the win on the day I kind of made a little bit of history, which was really, really nice to do,’’ Nassib added. “I had a lot of people come before me in the LGBTQ community that helped me get to where I am, and I’m super thankful for that."
