Bill Gates is not the billionaire the public thought he was, according to a new report from Business Insider that alleges he cheated on his wife and had ties with Jeffrey Epstein.
Bill Gates had built up a reputation of being a nerd with a heart of gold: He was giving, moving and inspiring. His contributions in the tech space and environmental innovations have changed people’s relationships with computers and philanthropy forever.
However, in the light of his imminent divorce with Melinda Gates after 27 years of marriage, a darker side of his persona is emerging.
Melinda Gates, according to The New York Times, did not like how her soon to be ex-husband handled a situation involving his money manager, Michael Larson, who faced allegations of sexual harassment in 2017.
In 2018, the woman had a settlement that included payment and a nondisclosure agreement, and Larson still has a job at Microsoft.
Microsoft's board hired a law firm to investigate Bill Gates, The Wall Street Journal reported.
"Microsoft received a concern in the latter half of 2019 that Bill Gates sought to initiate an intimate relationship with a company employee in the year 2000," a Microsoft representative told The Journal.
"A committee of the Board reviewed the concern, aided by an outside law firm to conduct a thorough investigation. Throughout the investigation, Microsoft provided extensive support to the employee who raised the concern," the person added.
The Journal also reported that the breaking point to their marriage started when Melinda was upset at Bill for wanting to arrange a meeting with Epstein in 2011, which marks three years after Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution.
Bill Gates and Esptein were reported to have met more than once at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse, the Times reported.
Bridgitt Arnold, a spokesperson for Gates, told the Times, "It is extremely disappointing that there have been so many untruths published about the cause, the circumstances, and the timeline of Bill Gates' divorce. The rumors and speculation surrounding Gates' divorce are becoming increasingly absurd, and it's unfortunate that people who have little to no knowledge of the situation are being characterized as 'sources.'"
