Elon Musk announced on Thursday that Tesla has increased the power capacity of the latest Powerwall 2 home battery units by up to 50 percent in some temperatures, Electrek reported.
The long-awaited update tweaks the energy capacity a little down to 13.5 kWh, making it weigh less than it currently does, 269 lbs to 251.3 lbs.
What makes this update significant is the home battery's first major update since its release in 2016.
Tesla says they underestimated consumers' demand for the Powerwall 2, causing prices to go up (recently to $7,500).
In addition to giving a 50 percent battery life increase, Tesla also announced that it will be bundled with solar products from now on.
"Starting next week, Tesla Solar Panels & Solar Roof will only be sold as an integrated product with Tesla Powerwall battery,” Musk tweeted. “Solar power will feed exclusively to Powerwall. Powerwall will interface only between utility meter & house main breaker panel, enabling super simple install & seamless whole house backup during utility dropouts,” another tweet read.
