Colorado Parks and Wildlife Northeast Region has a message for residents of Estes Park: Lock your car doors.

The friendly advice comes following an incident during which a bear opened eight unlocked car doors in a single night.

“Wildlife Officer Rylands observed 8 vehicles overnight that a bear got into. ALL 8 vehicles were UNLOCKED,” the agency tweeted Saturday. “While not all of the vehicles had food or attractants, some bears go from car to car just to see if they’re unlocked, then hope to find food.”

The bear was not caught in the act and the park service did not indicate the extent of any damage that occurred.

“Make it a routine to lock ALL your windows and doors for both your vehicle and home,” the agency tweeted. “This is for your safety and for the lives of these amazing and resourceful creatures.”
